My First Adult LEGO Purchase Was This Mario Set and I Have No Regrets

by Gabriel Mar 21,2025

I'm generally practical with my spending. Essentials and the occasional sale-priced video game usually cover it. It wasn't until last year that I even considered a LEGO set, despite enjoying them as a kid. The cost is a significant factor; while some sets are affordable, licensed ones tend to be pricey. This explains my hesitation with the LEGO Super Mario Piranha Plant. It's been on sale for under $50 since October, but I only recently decided my desk needed a new, somewhat unusual, plant.

540 pieces, poseable. $59.99 (20% off) $47.95 at Amazon; $59.99 (20% off) $47.99 at Walmart.

I considered this set after seeing IGN's build. Being a Mario fan, it seemed the perfect way to show my love for the franchise. LEGO's botanical line has attractive flower sets, but none are as delightfully terrifying as this little guy.

I'm thrilled with the finished set. It brings a touch of the Mushroom Kingdom to my desk. Building it was enjoyable, a challenging yet engaging afternoon project. It's my first Nintendo LEGO set, but this experience has me considering more.

How Much Are You Willing to Spend on a LEGO Set You Love?

LEGO sets can be expensive, with adult-targeted sets often exceeding $200. Balancing self-indulgence with budget is key. The sub-$50 price of this Mario set made the purchase worthwhile. The hours spent building and the daily happiness it brings justify the cost for me.
