Alienware Slashes Prices on RTX 4090 Gaming PCs

by Skylar May 04,2025

The GeForce RTX 4090, while a generation older than the new Blackwell 50 series GPUs, remains a powerhouse in the graphics card market. It outperforms the GeForce RTX 5080, RTX 4080 Super, Radeon RX 9070 XT, and RX 7900 XTX. Only the RTX 5090 surpasses it, and obtaining one without significant price markups is nearly impossible.

With the RTX 4090 now discontinued, finding one has become increasingly challenging. Thankfully, Dell offers two prebuilt gaming PCs equipped with this formidable GPU at competitive prices. The Alienware Aurora R16 starts at $2,999.99, while the Dell Tower Plus is priced at $2,849.99. These are some of the best deals available for an RTX 4090-equipped system, as other major manufacturers like Lenovo and HP have stopped offering RTX 4090 prebuilt PCs.

The Alienware Aurora R16 comes with an Intel Core Ultra 7 265F CPU, GeForce RTX 4090 GPU, 16GB of DDR5-5200MHz RAM, and a 1TB NVMe SSD. The processor can be upgraded to an Intel Core Ultra 9 285K, though for gaming-focused setups, this upgrade is unnecessary. The Intel Core Ultra 7 265F boasts a max turbo frequency of 5.3GHz and 20 cores, and is cooled by a robust 240mm all-in-one liquid cooler. The system is powered by a 1,000W 80PLUS Platinum power supply.

The Dell Tower Plus offers similar specs: an Intel Core Ultra 7 265F CPU, GeForce RTX 4090 GPU, 16GB of DDR5-5200MHz RAM, and a 1TB NVMe SSD. Upgrading the processor to the Intel Core Ultra 7 285K for an additional $100 is recommended, as it enhances the CPU cooling to "advanced air cooling," a more robust tower heatsink fan rated for 125W TDP. The system is also powered by a 1,000W 80PLUS Platinum power supply.

How does the RTX 4090 stack up against current cards?

The RTX 4090 is the most powerful RTX 40 series GPU available. It delivers exceptional performance at 4K resolution, achieving over 60fps even with max settings and ray tracing enabled, particularly when DLSS is supported. While it struggles with path tracing, this feature is rarely used beyond benchmarks or social media showcases. The RTX 5090 may be faster, but the RTX 4090 already excels in gaming performance, making the RTX 5090's superior power largely unnecessary for most gamers.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 GPU Review by Chris Coke

"The RTX 4090 may be large and pricey, but it truly outshines its competition. As the only available card of its new generation, it's compared to older models, yet its impressive hardware and DLSS 3 AI capabilities justify its $1,599 price tag with unparalleled frame rates."

Dell also offers an Alienware Aurora R16 equipped with the new GeForce RTX 5080 GPU for $2,499.99 shipped. According to our Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 FE review by Jackie, "For those with recent high-end graphics cards, the RTX 5080 may not offer significant improvements over the RTX 4080, though DLSS 4 Multi-Frame Generation enhances supported games. However, for gamers upgrading from older cards, the RTX 5080 delivers a substantial performance boost, especially when utilizing Nvidia’s AI enhancements."
