"Amazon Slashes $50 Off Used: Like New PlayStation Portal"

by Nicholas Apr 03,2025

The PlayStation Portal has never been discounted, but savvy gamers can now snag a deal on a used unit. Amazon Resale, formerly known as Amazon Warehouse, is currently offering the PlayStation Portal in "Used: Like New" condition for just $150.23, shipped. This represents a significant 25% savings off the original retail price of $199. While a Sony warranty might not be included, you're still covered by Amazon's standard 30-day return policy. Given the popularity of this item, it's expected to sell out quickly.

Update: The price has dropped to $150.23, marking the lowest price we've seen for a "Used: Like New" unit.

The PlayStation Portal is Sony's innovative handheld gaming accessory designed for the PS5 console. It resembles an extended DualSense controller with an 8-inch 1080p LCD screen integrated into the center. By streaming games directly from your PS5, the Portal transforms your console into a portable gaming device, delivering up to 60fps gameplay. It replicates the DualSense's features, including haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and a touchscreen interface that substitutes for the DualSense's touchpad. While it can stream games outside your home, a stable and fast internet connection is essential. Remember, the PS Portal is not a standalone device; it's a remote player that requires a PS5 to function.

Update: You no longer need a PS5 to play games on the PS Portal. Sony has recently enabled a feature allowing users to stream games directly from the PlayStation Now cloud streaming service. This means Portal owners can now choose between connecting to their PS5 or directly to Sony’s cloud servers, accessing over 120 games including titles like Ghost of Tsushima, Resident Evil 3 Remake, The Last of Us Part 1 Remastered, and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Note that you'll need to subscribe to the highest tier of PlayStation Plus, which at $18 a month, is a more cost-effective option compared to purchasing a $500 PS5 and additional games.

It's worth noting that you can also stream PS5 games over Wi-Fi within your home using the PS Remote Play app on other devices, like the Steam Deck. However, setup is more complex, and you'll miss out on some DualSense features.

PlayStation Portal Review by Seth Macy**

"The PlayStation Portal surprised me. Initially skeptical, I ended up loving it. It's far superior to using a phone with a controller attachment and performs better than I expected. It grants the freedom to play my PS5 from anywhere with decent WiFi, which is great when my family is using the TV for other games. However, it's not a standalone device; it needs a PS5 to work. The main drawbacks are the lack of WiFi access requiring a web browser login and the absence of Bluetooth audio support. Despite these, it's the best solution for PlayStation Remote Play currently available, making it a compelling choice for PS5 owners who enjoy handheld gaming or need to share the household TV."
