AMD Radeon RX 9070 GPUs: Official Release Window Announced, Price Still Unknown

by Jonathan Mar 28,2025

At CES 2025, AMD unveiled its next-generation graphics cards, the RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT, part of the RDNA 4 family. Interestingly, these GPUs were absent from AMD's keynote, even though vendors were showcasing them on the show floor with obscured specifications. David McAfee, VP & GM of Radeon Graphics and Ryzen CPUs, took to Twitter / X to announce that these eagerly anticipated cards will hit the market in March 2025.

"Radeon 9000 series hardware and software are looking great and we are planning to have a wide assortment of cards available globally," McAfee shared. "Can’t wait for gamers to get their hands on the cards when they go on sale in March!"

While the launch month is set, AMD has yet to disclose key details such as specifications and pricing for the RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT. Speculation suggests these GPUs will compete directly with Nvidia’s upcoming RTX 5070 and RTX 5070 Ti, which are slated for a February release, in terms of both price and performance.

Despite the lack of official details, reports confirm that stock of the RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT has already reached retailers and is in the hands of reviewers and critics. eTeknix, for instance, has confirmed receiving review samples of these upcoming graphics cards.

The unusual rollout has led to speculation that AMD may have delayed the official launch to strategically counter Nvidia's RTX 5070 and 5070 Ti, allowing for direct comparisons with Team Green's offerings. There are also rumors that pricing pressure from Nvidia might have influenced AMD's decision to delay the RX 9070 lineup's release.

The sparse information and unconventional launch strategy have resulted in a somewhat confusing message around the RX 9070 lineup. A report from June 2024 highlights Nvidia's commanding 88% share of the discrete GPU market, with AMD holding just 12%. As no other company currently challenges Nvidia in the mid-range or high-end consumer graphics card market, AMD faces a critical opportunity to make significant inroads into Nvidia's market dominance with its RX 9070 series.
