Ananta Emerges from Mugen's Ashes with Stunning New Trailer
NetEase's upcoming urban open-world RPG, formerly known as Project Mugen, has been rebranded as Ananta. Initially unveiled at Gamescom 2023, the game recently released a new trailer, promising further details on December 5th. Until then, enjoy the official trailer:
The reason behind the name change remains undisclosed by the developers. However, "Ananta," meaning "infinite" in Sanskrit, aligns with the original title's meaning. This is further supported by the game's Chinese title.
The rebranding has sparked mixed reactions within the gaming community, though the continued development is a welcome relief. Comparisons are already being drawn between Ananta and Hotta Studio's upcoming RPG, Neverness to Everness. While Ananta's trailer is visually impressive, the lack of gameplay footage gives Neverness to Everness a current advantage in many players' eyes. Personally, I find Ananta's visuals more captivating.
Adding to the intrigue, the development team has deleted all previous social media accounts, including a YouTube channel with a significant following, opting for a fresh start. Only the Discord server was retained and renamed. This unusual decision has left many gamers puzzled.
In Ananta, players assume the role of an Infinite Trigger, a paranormal investigator combating supernatural threats. The cast of characters includes Taffy, Bansy, Alan, Mechanika, and Dila.
