Anti-Cheat Update: Valorant Implements New Measures
Valorant's New Anti-Cheat Measures: Ranked Rollbacks to Combat Cheaters
Valorant is escalating its fight against cheaters with the introduction of ranked rollbacks. This new anti-cheat measure will reverse a player's rank or progress if their match was compromised by hackers. The goal is to penalize cheaters and ensure fair gameplay for all Valorant players.
The recent surge in cheating activity prompted Riot Games to take decisive action. Phillip Koskinas, Riot's head of anti-cheat, confirmed the problem and emphasized Riot's enhanced ability to combat cheating, highlighting the implementation of ranked rollbacks as a key component of their updated strategy. He shared data illustrating a significant number of bans issued by Valorant's Vanguard anti-cheat system in January alone, demonstrating the scale of the issue and Riot's response.
Addressing concerns about players who win matches with cheaters on their team, Koskinas clarified that teammates of cheaters will retain their rank rating. Only the opposing team, unfairly disadvantaged by the cheater, will have their rank adjusted. While acknowledging potential inflationary effects, Riot believes this approach is the best way forward.
Valorant's Vanguard system, known for its kernel-level security, has a proven track record of success in detecting and banning cheaters. Its effectiveness has even inspired similar anti-cheat implementations in other popular games like Call of Duty. Despite past successes, the persistent nature of cheating necessitates ongoing adaptation and stronger countermeasures.
Riot's commitment to fair play is evident in the thousands of previous bans and the introduction of ranked rollbacks. While the long-term effectiveness of this new strategy remains to be seen, it signifies a proactive and determined effort to maintain a positive and competitive gaming environment in Valorant.
