How To Get Armadillo Scutes in Minecraft

The Armadillo, a passive mob introduced in Minecraft's 1.20.5 "Armored Paws" update, is found across various warm biomes. Its tough scutes are crucial for crafting Wolf Armor. Here's how to acquire them:

Acquiring Armadillo Scutes:

Armadillos inhabit warm biomes, spawning in groups of two or three. They defensively curl into a ball when startled, so approach cautiously. These biomes include: Badlands, Eroded Badlands, Savanna, Savanna Plateau, Windswept Savanna, and Wooded Badlands.

There are two methods for collecting scutes:

• Patient Waiting: Similar to chickens laying eggs, Armadillos shed a single scute every 5-10 minutes. This passive approach requires no tools but can be time-consuming.

• Using a Brush: This faster method uses a crafted Brush. While often used for examining sand or gravel, it efficiently collects one scute per use.

Crafting and Using a Brush:

A Brush is crafted using a Feather, Copper Ingot, and Stick (placed vertically in the crafting grid). In the Java Edition, a fully durable Brush can be used four times on an Armadillo; in Bedrock Edition, five times. Damaged brushes can be repaired using an anvil, preserving enchantments if present. Possible enchantments include Unbreaking, Mending, and Curse of Vanishing.

To collect scutes, gently approach the Armadillo to avoid its defensive roll, then use the Brush. The number of scutes obtained depends on the number of Brushes available.

Six scutes are needed for a full suit of Wolf Armor, crafted at a Crafting Table.
