Recent Windows 11 Update Disrupts Assassin's Creed Gameplay; Patches Released

A recent Windows 11 update (24H2) introduced compatibility issues for several Assassin's Creed titles. While fixes are now available for Assassin's Creed Origins and Assassin's Creed Valhalla, players of Assassin's Creed Odyssey may still encounter problems.

The Windows 11 24H2 update, boasting features like Wi-Fi 7 support and AI Copilot+, inadvertently caused some games, including select Assassin's Creed titles, to malfunction. Ubisoft swiftly responded with title updates for Origins and Valhalla, readily available via Steam. These patches, requiring 230 MB and 500 MB of storage space respectively, resolve the launch and functionality issues.

However, the issue persists for some Ubisoft games, notably Assassin's Creed Odyssey, which remains affected. While previous patches addressed similar problems in Star Wars: Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, performance inconsistencies might linger. Players of Odyssey are advised to delay the Windows 11 24H2 update until a dedicated patch is released.

This unforeseen compatibility problem highlights a potential oversight in Microsoft's testing process. Reports surfaced months before the official 24H2 rollout, yet the issue wasn't fully resolved prior to release. This is particularly concerning given Microsoft's push for Windows 10 users to upgrade to Windows 11. Fortunately, the majority of games appear unaffected by the update.
