Atelier Yumia: Guide to Memory Alchemy and Land Synthesis
One of the most intricate elements of *Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land* is the Synthesis mechanic, which is intricately woven into nearly every aspect of gameplay. From the resources you gather to the weapons you craft, understanding Synthesis can significantly enhance your gaming experience. Here's how to master it.
Synthesis Types in Atelier Yumia
In *Atelier Yumia*, there are three distinct types of Synthesis:
- Regular Synthesis: This is performed at an Alchemist’s altar and is essential for crafting weapons, armor, battle accessories, magical items, and materials needed for other Synthesis processes. Early in the game, you unlock the Atelier, which serves as your primary Synthesis location. Additionally, in certain areas like cleared manabound zones and campsites, you can build a Simple Altar to conduct regular Synthesis.
- Simple Synthesis: Accessible via the radial menu outside of battle, this type allows you to craft practical items like bandages, gauntlets for ziplines, and various repair kits for treasure chests, ladders, and more, provided you have the necessary resources.
- Building Synthesis: Although not explicitly labeled as Synthesis, this mode, accessible through the radial menu on designated plots of land, involves Yumia crafting storage chests and wall hangings. The narrative often refers to this as Synthesis, so keep that in mind to avoid confusion.

How to Synthesize Equipment in Atelier Yumia
Regular Synthesis, performed at altars, is the most complex form. To craft an item like a gun staff for Yumia, you first need to find the recipe while exploring. You can also upgrade existing recipes at a Recipe Recall Station using particles from mana fountains. Here's the process at an Alchemist’s altar:
- Choose the type of gun staff you want to create.
- Select Synthesis Skills if they are unlocked in the skill tree.
- Choose the initial Alchemy Core as your foundation.
- Decide on the type of Alchemy Core:
- Effects Alchemy Core enhances selected skills.
- Quality Alchemy Core boosts the quality level of the finished item.
- Trait Alchemy Core increases the number of Trait Crystal slots available for the item.
- Fill the slots of each Alchemy Core with the resources you've collected.
- Collect mana fragments to further enhance the item's quality.
- Complete the Synthesis process to create the item.
To craft powerful items early on, unlock Synthesis Skills from the skill tree as soon as possible. These skills not only boost damage and quality but also allow you to duplicate items, conserving resources. Additionally, you can enhance the item's quality by adding resources to all three Alchemy Cores using the left or right bumper while filling slots. Collecting the yellow mana fragments around each core will significantly increase the item's strength, which is crucial unless you're crafting a quest item.
When selecting resources, prioritize those that match the element type of the specific slots, identifiable by their blue outline. You can organize your resources from the submenu to select higher-quality ones first, although sometimes prioritizing effects might be more beneficial.
For those who find this mechanic overwhelming, the auto-Synthesis option is available after selecting Synthesis Skills. This feature allows the game to craft the best possible item, making it easier to tackle challenges like the final boss on Normal difficulty.
Mastering the Synthesis mechanic in *Atelier Yumia* will unlock the full potential of your gameplay, allowing you to create powerful equipment and enhance your adventure.
