Black Beacon: The Rising Star in Gacha Gaming
Black Beacon has made its exciting debut on mobile devices, and we were lucky enough to dive into this Mythic Sci-Fi Action RPG ahead of its official release. Here's our take on this intriguing game.
Shh! This Is A Library!
Your journey begins in the Library of Babel, a vast and enigmatic structure inspired by both the biblical Tower of Babel and Jorge Luis Borges' famous short story. In this setting, the library houses every possible book that could ever be written, making it a labyrinth of knowledge and mystery. You awaken here, surrounded by a cast of colorful characters, all grappling with their sudden arrival and the looming destiny that awaits you. Oh, and there's a giant spinning orb that's set to obliterate everyone within 24 hours. Welcome to your first day as a Seer! Brace yourself for some intense bookshelf navigation.
The setting and story are delightfully chaotic, featuring a library filled with nonsensical books, time travel, and intriguing mythological references (we won't spoil the bird mystery). The narrative throws you into the deep end, and if you're feeling a bit lost, rest assured, that's part of the charm.
Send Me In, Coach
Black Beacon offers a thrilling moment-to-moment experience as an ARPG dungeon crawler with a customizable camera viewpoint. You can choose between a top-down perspective or a free camera setup, depending on your preference. As you navigate the Library's passageways, you'll progress through short, episodic sections, each containing multiple maps. Energy mechanics govern access to these sections, but the game is quite generous with this resource.
Your adventure involves exploring areas, solving puzzles, hunting for hidden treasures, and battling enemies—distorted remnants of individuals the Library hasn't fully "digested." The combat system is fast-paced and engaging, requiring a bit of button-mashing but keeping you on your toes. Perfect timing is key; a well-executed dodge grants you invincibility frames, while a timely heavy attack can interrupt an enemy's move.
A unique feature is the character-swap mechanic, which lets you switch fighters mid-battle. This tag-team approach keeps the action fresh and strategic, allowing you to swap out tired characters for fresh ones, even during an attack. Mastering this rhythm feels rewarding, though mistiming a dodge can send you flying down the hallway.
Characters And Weapon Rolls
As a gacha game, Black Beacon includes a system for acquiring characters and weapons tailored to them. Both can be leveled up, and while the game uses various ingredients for this process, much of it can be automated for convenience. You might encounter characters in the gacha before meeting them in the story, adding an element of unpredictability and variety.
Overall, Black Beacon is a quirky gacha game with a penchant for esoteric storytelling, supported by solid gameplay. We're eager to see how the game evolves post-launch.
Does this sound like your kind of adventure? If so, you can dive into Black Beacon now through its official website, the App Store, or Google Play.
