Blackroot Location in Divinity Original Sin 2 Revealed

Quick Links

In Divinity: Original Sin 2, the Blackroot stands out as one of the most crucial herbs you'll encounter throughout Rivellon. This herb is essential for the Miester's Ritual in the fourth act, guided by Miester Siva. To successfully perform the ritual, you need to craft a special Ritual Bowl using a ritual bowl, a bloody obsidian lancet, and the Blackroot. This concoction grants you access to the Hall of Echoes and unlocks the Night Vision skill, enhancing your gameplay experience.

The first time you undertake this ritual, all the required ingredients are conveniently located in Siva's basement. However, subsequent rituals, which you can perform each time you gain a Source point, require you to gather these items on your own. While acquiring a ritual bowl and an obsidian lancet is relatively straightforward and you might already have them in your inventory, finding Blackroot can be quite the challenge. If you're struggling to locate this elusive herb, this guide is designed to assist you.

Venture Into Cloisterwood

Cloisterwood, a dense forest in the northwestern part of Reaper's Coast, is just a short journey north from Driftwood. Once immersed in the forest's depths, press and hold the left ALT key to highlight all available pickups. You'll soon notice various herbs scattered at the base of trees, including the prized Blackroots. Although you only need one Blackroot for the ritual, it's wise to gather several as a precaution. Without delving into spoilers, remember that you can perform the ritual each time you earn a Source point.

Cloisterwood Exploration Tips

Cloisterwood is not just home to Blackroot but also harbors numerous secrets and key NPCs. You can encounter two NPCs, Hannag and Jahan, who can each help you gain a Source point. Notably, interacting with Jahan also advances Lohse's storyline. Hidden within some ruins, you'll find Eithne, an undead trader. By choosing the "Divine Order" dialogue option with her, you can unlock a side quest.

Further north in Cloisterwood, you'll reach a pier where the Dead Ferryman NPC awaits to transport you to Bloodmoon Island. These are just a few of the intriguing characters you'll meet. The forest is also ripe with other hidden treasures, such as the Wrecker's Cave and the chance to obtain a unique loremaster amulet by conversing with the spirit of a ship captain. If you're exploring Cloisterwood for the first time, take your time to thoroughly investigate the area. It's recommended to steer clear of the formidable witch, Alice Alisceon, who is crucified within the forest, until you reach at least level 15.
