Blizzard was selling skin in Overwatch 2, but announced a free giveaway 24 hours later

Blizzard finds itself embroiled in yet another controversy surrounding Overwatch 2. The issue centers around the Cyber DJ skin for Lucio, which was initially offered for sale at $19.99. However, just a day later, Blizzard announced that this same skin would be available for free to viewers who watched a special Overwatch 2 event on Twitch for an hour on February 12.

This sudden change left many players who had already purchased the Cyber DJ skin feeling cheated. Understandably, this has led to widespread frustration and demands for refunds among the community. The skin, dubbed Oblique, has since been removed from the store, but Blizzard has yet to address the refund requests.

This isn't the first instance where Blizzard has sold cosmetic items only to later offer them for free through promotional events. Such practices have only fueled the discontent among Overwatch 2 players, especially as they face stiff competition from games like Marvel Rivals, which is currently outperforming its competitors in various aspects.

In response to these challenges, Blizzard is set to unveil significant gameplay changes at the Overwatch 2 Spotlight event, scheduled for February 12. The broadcast promises to introduce new maps, heroes, and other exciting content. To generate buzz and provide a sneak peek at the upcoming updates, Blizzard will also host prominent streamers at their headquarters.
