Destiny 2 Update Causes Players' Usernames to be Wiped OutA recent Destiny 2 update inadvertently wiped out a significant number of players' usernames due to a malfunction in the game's moderation system. This article details the developers' response and outlines steps players can take if affected.

Destiny 2 Username Glitch: Bungie Issues Name Change Tokens

Bungie, the developers of Destiny 2, are addressing a widespread issue where many players' Bungie Names (account usernames) were unexpectedly altered following a recent game update. Affected players found their names replaced with "Guardian" followed by a random number sequence. This problem, first reported around August 14th, stemmed from a glitch within Bungie's name moderation system.

Bungie's official Twitter (X) account acknowledged the problem, stating they were investigating and would provide an update, including a free name change token for all players.

The moderation system typically changes usernames that violate Bungie's terms of service (offensive language, personal information, etc.). However, this instance affected numerous players with perfectly acceptable usernames, some using the same name since 2015.

Bungie swiftly responded with a series of tweets confirming the extent of the issue and assuring players they were working on a solution. They subsequently announced that the underlying cause had been identified and fixed to prevent further occurrences.

While the immediate problem is resolved, Bungie confirmed plans to distribute free name change tokens to all players as compensation. They advise patience while they complete the process and provide further communication. Players with altered usernames should await the distribution of these tokens and further announcements from Bungie.
