Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Directed Mode Has Been Huge for Zombies

Activision confirms Call of Duty: Black Ops 6's Directed mode has significantly boosted main quest completion rates. While many Black Ops 6 Zombies players prioritize survival, Directed mode has proven instrumental in driving narrative engagement.

The Call of Duty Zombies mode, featuring an evolving storyline since its debut in World at War, boasts a dedicated player base despite an overall game player decline. The core gameplay, a wave-based survival challenge, often overshadows story progression for many players. Introduced in Season 1, Directed mode has already made a considerable impact.

A recent blog post reveals Directed mode doubled the main quest completion rate, from 4% to 8.23%, based on 480 million hours of gameplay. While a success for Treyarch, who aimed to increase narrative participation, the data indicates that over 90% of players still haven't completed the main quest, prompting further development efforts.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6's Directed Mode: A Significant Improvement

Part of Black Ops 6's Season 1 update (including three new maps and two game modes), Directed mode provides structured guidance for players navigating the complex Zombies storyline. This storyline, encompassing interdimensional travel and other complex elements, can be challenging for newcomers. Unlike previous installments, Directed mode actively assists players in following the narrative.

The introduction of Directed mode has significantly increased the likelihood of players completing the main quest. Future updates to both Zombies and Directed mode are expected to further enhance these completion statistics.
