Capcom Hints at Resident Evil 9 in Fun Video Marking 10M RE4 Players

by Noah May 15,2025

Capcom has subtly teased the upcoming Resident Evil 9 right under our noses. In a celebratory move marking the milestone of 10 million players for Resident Evil 4, the game's development team released a brief yet intriguing video on social media on April 25. The video features Ada Wong in a hushed conversation with a well-known antagonist, followed by a scene of Leon surrounded by infected enemies wearing party hats, casually making their way toward a church.

The video then transitions to a rock tune, with Dr. Salvador amusingly playing his chainsaw as if it were a guitar. The camera pans to show Leon enthusiastically pumping his fist, with a rustic "Thank you for playing" sign visible in the background.

However, a closer look reveals a clever Easter egg. When the "Thank you for playing" sign is turned on its side, the boards form the Roman numeral "IX," representing the number 9. While it could be seen as a mere coincidence, horror game insider Dusk Golem points out that the lower plank, which forms the "IX," was not present in earlier scenes, indicating it was added deliberately.

"I know what you did here," said one surprised viewer, accompanied by a wide-eyed emoji.

Capcom has officially announced that the next installment in the Resident Evil series, directed by Koshi Nakanishi of Resident Evil 7 fame, will be Resident Evil 9. Nakanishi stated previously, "It was really difficult to figure out what to do after [Resident Evil 7]. But I found it, and to be honest, it feels substantial. I can't share any details just yet, but I hope you're excited for the day I can." While not confirmed, rumors suggest that the game will be set on an island inspired by Singapore.
