Captain America: Brave New World Expected to Surpass $100M at Domestic Box Office During Presidents Day Weekend

by Lucas May 02,2025

"Captain America: Brave New World" has soared past initial projections, pulling in an impressive $100 million at the domestic box office over the Presidents Day holiday weekend. According to Comscore, the latest Marvel Studios release grossed an estimated $88.5 million across 4,105 theaters over the traditional three-day period, with projections reaching $100 million over the extended four-day holiday. Internationally, the film added another $92.4 million, bringing the global weekend total to an estimated $192.4 million.

With a production budget of $180 million, "Captain America: Brave New World" needs to reach around $425 million globally to break even, as reported by Deadline. The film's opening weekend performance places it as the fourth-best Presidents Day launch on record, following other superhero blockbusters like "Black Panther" ($242 million), "Deadpool" ($152 million), and "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania" ($120 million).

Despite its strong box office start, "Captain America: Brave New World" has faced critical scrutiny, receiving a lukewarm 5/10 in IGN's review. The critique noted, "Captain America: Brave New World feels neither brave, nor all that new, falling short of strong performances from Anthony Mackie, Harrison Ford, and Carl Lumbly."

As the film rolls out, all eyes are on "Captain America: Brave New World" to see if it can buck the recent trend of declining performance for Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movies, aside from the successful "Deadpool & Wolverine" from last year. The MCU is counting on this film to build momentum as it heads into upcoming releases like "Thunderbolts*" in May and "The Fantastic Four: First Steps" in July.
