Ciri to Lead The Witcher 4: A Natural Choice, Says CD Projekt Red

CD Projekt Red has announced that Ciri will take center stage in the highly anticipated The Witcher 4, marking a natural evolution in the series' storyline. Executive Producer Malgorzata Mitrega explained that this shift from Geralt to Ciri is driven by the progression of the game series and the narrative established in Andrzej Sapkowski's original works.

Mitrega pointed out that Geralt's narrative arc reached its conclusion in The Witcher 3, setting the stage for Ciri's emergence as a protagonist with vast potential. Having been intricately developed in both the books and the games, Ciri's character offers a rich tapestry of depth and complexity, opening up new avenues for creative exploration. Director Sebastian Kalemba highlighted that Ciri's younger age provides players with greater flexibility to shape her character, a freedom that was not possible with the more established Geralt.

Interestingly, the idea of transitioning the protagonist role to Ciri has been in discussion for nearly a decade, underscoring CD Projekt Red's long-term vision of her as Geralt's successor. Kalemba further noted that the fresh challenges and perspectives Ciri will face are poised to forge an equally epic new saga.

Doug Cockle, the voice behind Geralt, has endorsed the move, praising Ciri's untapped potential as a lead character. While Geralt will still make an appearance in the new game, he will no longer be the focal point, thereby shifting the narrative focus to Ciri's journey.
