To initiate The Tournament quest in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, you need to interact with Gyoji, a character from Yamato. After eliminating several members of The Shinbakufu, Gyoji will be waiting for you outside your hideout. He will introduce you to a secret fighting arena located at the Ominesanji Temple in Southeastern Yamato. To make your journey easier, synchronize with the Ominesanji Overlook viewpoint west of the temple, which will serve as a fast travel point. This is crucial for quick returns and potential character switches during the tournament.

Once at the Ominesanji Temple, speak to Gyoji again. He will inform you about the four one-on-one duels you must win before facing the ultimate champion. After this briefing, you can start the first fight by ringing the bell.

How to Complete The Tournament in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

The Tournament is a gauntlet of intense, life-or-death battles. You can take breaks between fights, which is essential for healing with rations and upgrading your weapons and armor. To succeed in each duel, consider using a long katana as Yasuke, focusing on dodging and parrying to exploit your opponents' vulnerabilities. Utilize abilities such as Power Dash and Payback when you have enough adrenaline.

Knowing your opponents' weapons can give you an edge. Here's a rundown of the fighters and their weapons:

  • Lady Masago uses a Naginata.
  • Lord Suguru uses a Katana.
  • Lord Hokuto uses a Kanabo.
  • Lady O-Sen wields two Poison Katanas and throws ranged items.
  • Lord Unkai uses a Naginata and can heal if you stay too far away for a few seconds.

After defeating all challengers, speak to Gyoji once more on the hill. He will express his gratitude for your participation and promise to contact you for future tournaments. At this point, the "Test Your Might" trophy should unlock.

Best Loadout and Skills for Tournaments in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

For The Tournament, the Long Katana is your best bet. Equip the highest rarity Long Katana available and upgrade it to its maximum potential at your hideout’s blacksmith. Engravings that boost Armor Damage or Armor Piercing will be particularly beneficial. Armor choice is crucial; it not only increases your health but also offers combat-altering engravings.

Before entering The Tournament, ensure you've unlocked the Samurai Daimyo Armor of Legend by defeating The Ox, and the Protector’s Armor from completing a Castle. The former enhances your damage by 75% but caps your health at 25%, while the latter allows you to parry unblockable attacks. Combining these engravings can enable you to defeat tournament enemies swiftly, provided you master the art of parrying.

For skills, invest heavily in the Long Katana and Samurai trees. Max out Combat Expert to boost your melee weapon damage and unlock Power Dash and Payback for strategic advantages in battle.
