by Olivia Mar 05,2025

James Gunn and Peter Safran have confirmed that The Brave and the Bold will introduce a new Batman to the DC Universe (DCU), explicitly excluding Robert Pattinson's portrayal. During a DC Studios presentation, Safran and Gunn clarified that Pattinson's Batman remains exclusive to Matt Reeves' "The Batman Epic Crime Saga."

Gunn stated definitively, "It's certainly not the plan. No," regarding Pattinson's inclusion in the DCU. Safran elaborated, "And we love him, but we've got to introduce a Batman into the DCU. That's imperative. And so that's the plan with The Brave and the Bold."

Earlier speculation arose from Reeves' own ambiguous comments suggesting a potential crossover.

Confirmed DCU Projects

11 ImagesReeves previously stated that his focus remained on "The Epic Crime Saga," and that collaboration with Gunn and Safran allowed him to pursue this vision. He expressed uncertainty about the future, emphasizing his commitment to The Batman Part 2.

Safran expressed enthusiasm for Reeves' vision for The Batman Part 2, noting that while the script wasn't finalized, the progress was promising.

The Brave and the Bold is currently in active development, with Gunn and Safran actively shaping the script. Andy Muschietti's involvement as director remains contingent on the finalized script. Further announcements regarding The Brave and the Bold are anticipated soon.

The Batman Part 2's delayed release date (October 1, 2027) creates a significant gap between Pattinson's debut and the sequel. Safran confirmed a Batman film for October 2027, but offered no further details.

A brief, silhouetted appearance of Batman in Creature Commandos Episode 6 confirmed his pre-existing presence and established recognition within the DCU, eliminating the need for an origin story. Gunn's comments to Rotten Tomatoes TV clarified the deliberate stylistic choice for this cameo.

Gunn hinted at a future team-up between the DCU Batman and Superman, emphasizing his personal affection for the character and his anticipation for showcasing the Dark Knight alongside Superman.
