Weaknesses: Water
Resistances: N/A
Immunities: Sonic Bomb
The Quematrice, a giant chicken-like monster reminiscent of a Cockatrice, breathes fire instead of turning hunters to stone. Its mid-size makes it vulnerable to most weapons, but its area-of-effect attacks might favor ranged weapons for less experienced hunters.
While its tail sweeps and strikes can inflict damage, its most potent move is the tail slam. This involves a high arc before a powerful downward strike. Sidestepping or blocking will negate this attack. However, watch out for its fire attacks! These not only deal initial damage but also inflict burning, steadily draining your health and potentially igniting the ground.
These fire attacks lack obvious tells. It might rear its head and roar before launching a flame from its tail. It can also perform a full fiery sweep after a head and tail raise, engulfing the surrounding area. A charging attack followed by a last-second fire blast is another variant. For ranged hunters, retreating is the best strategy to avoid these fiery assaults.
How to Capture Quematrice in Monster Hunter Wilds
Capturing the Quematrice requires the right tools: Shock Trap, Pitfall Trap, and at least two Tranq Bombs. While one trap suffices, a backup is crucial—just in case it flees or another monster interferes.
Once the Quematrice is significantly weakened (limping, or its skull icon briefly disappears from the mini-map), it's time to set a trap. Ideally, wait until it moves to a new area after limping away for a smoother capture. Place your trap, lure the Quematrice into it, and throw two Tranq Bombs to secure the capture.
