Cosmo Jarvis Confirmed for Shogun Season 2, Set a Decade Later

by Emery May 24,2025

The critically acclaimed series Shōgun, which swept 18 Emmy Awards and 4 Golden Globes, is set to return for a much-anticipated second season. According to an official press release from FX, Cosmo Jarvis, who brilliantly portrays pilot John Blackthorn, will reprise his role and step up as a co-executive producer for Season 2.

Hiroyuki Sanada, the leading actor who committed to Season 2 last May following the show's renewal—despite it being initially billed as a limited series—has been promoted to executive producer. Sanada's involvement in the original season as a producer has now been elevated for the upcoming season. Production for Season 2 is slated to commence in Vancouver, the original filming location, starting in January 2026.

FX has teased that the second season will offer "a wholly original new chapter" following the first season, which was an adaptation of James Clavell’s novel. The network provided insight into the narrative bridge between the seasons:

"In the first season, Lord Yoshii Toranaga (Sanada) battled for his survival against a united front from his enemies in the Council of Regents. The arrival of a mysterious European ship, captained by the English pilot John Blackthorne (Jarvis), shifted the power dynamics. Blackthorne's strategic insights aided Toranaga in clinching victory in a pivotal civil war.

"The second part of Shōgun is set a decade later and continues the saga of these two men from vastly different worlds, whose destinies remain interwoven."

With fingers crossed, fans are hoping to see new episodes of this stellar show by the end of 2026. Until then, the anticipation builds as we await further updates on this historically-inspired masterpiece.
