Cow in Mario Kart World Eats Burgers, Steak
Amidst the whirlwind of news about tariffs and Nintendo Switch 2 pricing, it's refreshing to dive into something a bit more light-hearted: the exciting new addition to Mario Kart World unveiled at a Nintendo event in New York. IGN had the chance to play the game and confirm a peculiar detail that's been buzzing around the internet—the Moo Moo Meadows Cow can indeed eat burgers and steak, among other food items.
If you're out of the loop, let's catch you up. Mario Kart World recently introduced the Moo Moo Meadows Cow as a playable character, much to the delight of fans who have already flooded the internet with memes and fanart. This character, previously just a charming background figure in a single Mario Kart track, has now taken center stage.
However, a curious issue arose following the Nintendo Direct 2 trailer where Mario was seen indulging in a burger. Given that burgers are typically made from beef, fans were left pondering a rather existential question: would Cow, whose species is a source of beef, eat beef herself?

At the Nintendo preview event, the mystery was solved. Food items from the trailer, available at Yoshi's diner locations throughout the game's courses, function like drive-thrus where racers can grab take-out bags similar to item boxes. These bags can contain a variety of foods, including burgers, steak kebabs, pizza, and donuts. And yes, Cow can consume them all.

During our hands-on session, we observed Cow eating various items, including the much-discussed burger. Interestingly, while other characters undergo costume changes after consuming these foods, Cow seems unaffected. This raises questions: is Cow simply enjoying the taste? Or could there be a hidden power-up that Nintendo has yet to unveil? Are these perhaps plant-based alternatives?
IGN reached out to Nintendo for clarification but has not received a response. Given the buzz around this topic, it's likely they're swamped at their New York event rather than avoiding the, let's admit it, slightly eccentric question.
