How To Find and Craft Essence Stones in Fields of Mistria

With the March 2025 update, *Fields of Mistria* introduced Essence Stones—versatile new items essential for powering several upcoming features. These stones come in handy for automating daily tasks on your farm, so it’s worth knowing where to find and how to craft them. Here’s everything you need to know about Essence Stones, including how to collect and use them effectively.

Where To Find Essence Stones in Fields of Mistria

After the March 2025 update, Essence Stones can now be found inside chests scattered throughout the mines. While exploring Floor 60 in search of materials to break the Fire Seal, I came across my first Essence Stone—but these chests can appear on any level across the game's biomes. Be cautious though, as mimic enemies often disguise themselves as chests and will damage you upon interaction.

Essence Stones are available in four sizes: tiny, small, medium, and large. Smaller varieties are more common, but with some exploration, you may stumble upon larger deposits. If mining doesn’t yield enough stones, you can always craft them using the Stone Refinery.

How To Craft Essence Stones in Fields of Mistria

Crafting Essence Stones requires access to the Stone Refinery, a new structure added with the March 2025 update. Unlocking this feature involves completing a story quest that tasks you with building the refinery from scratch inside the mines. This mission follows earlier quests and is undertaken alongside characters Adeline, Olric, and Errol.

To construct the Stone Refinery, gather the following resources:

• Wood – x200
• Stone – x400
• Tesserae – x5,000

Once built, you’ll be able to craft all four sizes of Essence Stones. Each recipe only requires Stone and Essence, though the quantity varies by size. Refer to the crafting table below for exact amounts:

Beyond Essence Stones, the Stone Refinery also allows you to craft other useful materials like Refined Stone, Obsidian, and Diamonds—making it an invaluable asset for construction and upgrades around Mistria.

How To Use Essence Stones in Fields of Mistria

The March 2025 update brought two major quality-of-life improvements to *Fields of Mistria*: the auto-petter and sprinkler mechanics. Both rely on Essence Stones to function, with larger stones providing extended charge durations.

The Animal Sprite Statue powers the auto-petting system. Place it inside Large Barns or Coops, and your animals will be petted automatically each day as long as an Essence Stone is inserted. You can obtain the statue by exploring a hidden cave near Errol’s house in the Narrows using the Dragon’s Breath spell. Once unlocked, you can craft additional copies if needed.

Similarly, the Water Sprite Statue enables automatic crop watering within a 2-tile radius. This item can be placed anywhere on your farm, provided you insert an Essence Stone to power it. You’ll find the initial statue and its crafting blueprint on a secluded island east of the beach, just past the Lighthouse area. Swim over and use Dragon’s Breath on the entrance to gain access.
