Cancelled Crash Bandicoot 5? Former Toys For Bob Artist Hints at Unreleased Game

Crash Bandicoot 5 Allegedly Canceled After Studio Went Indie

A potential Crash Bandicoot 5 may have been shelved, according to former Toys For Bob concept artist Nicholas Kole. Kole revealed this in a recent X (formerly Twitter) post while discussing another canceled project, "Project Dragon." While initially thought to be Spyro-related, Kole clarified it was an original IP developed with Phoenix Labs. He then dropped the bombshell about Crash 5, stating, "It is not Spyro, but some day folks will hear about the Crash 5 that never was and it’s gonna break hearts."

Fan reaction was understandably negative, with many expressing disappointment at the news.

The news comes after Toys For Bob's transition from an Activision Blizzard studio to an independent developer earlier this year, following Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard. While Toys For Bob is now partnering with Microsoft for their next project, details remain scarce.

The last mainline Crash Bandicoot game, Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time (2020), sold over five million copies. Subsequent releases included the mobile title Crash Bandicoot: On the Run! (2021) and the multiplayer game Crash Team Rumble (2023), which ended live service in March 2024.

With Toys For Bob's newfound independence, the possibility of a future Crash Bandicoot 5 remains open, though the timing remains uncertain. Fans will likely be anxiously awaiting any further news.
