Night City's Next Chapter: Live-Action?

In a ScreenRant interview promoting Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (where he and Reeves reunite as Knuckles and Shadow, respectively), Idris Elba expressed his strong belief that a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action adaptation would be phenomenal, especially with himself and Keanu Reeves reprising their roles. He stated that the pairing of their characters would be electrifying, urging the idea into existence.

Reeves, of course, portrayed the iconic Johnny Silverhand, while Elba played Solomon Reed in the Phantom Liberty expansion.

This isn't just wishful thinking. Variety reported in October 2023 that a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action project is underway, with CD Projekt Red collaborating with Anonymous Content. While updates have been scarce since the announcement, the success of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and The Witcher live-action series suggests a Cyberpunk 2077 adaptation is a strong possibility.

Expanding the Cyberpunk Universe: Manga and More

Beyond the live-action potential, the Cyberpunk franchise continues to expand. A prequel manga to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, titled Cyberpunk: Edgerunners MADNESS, has launched its first chapter in several languages (Japanese, Polish, Italian, German, Spanish, and French, with Traditional Chinese coming December 20th). The English version's release date is yet to be announced. The manga focuses on Rebecca and Pilar before joining Maine's crew.

Furthermore, a Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Blu-ray release is planned for 2025, and a new animated series is in the works. CD Projekt Red is clearly committed to expanding the Cyberpunk universe.
