DanChro: Battle Chronicle to Shut Down This Year

The action RPG Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?: Battle Chronicle (DanChro) is set to end service this September, marking two years since its global debut. Today, the directors announced the decision, explaining that maintaining service quality that meets player expectations is no longer possible.

Launched in August 2023 with over a million pre-registrations, DanChro surpassed three million downloads rapidly. Leveraging the DanMachi IP and consistent content updates, the game blended 3D action combat with character collection in a vibrant package. Despite its strong initial performance, DanChro joins an expanding roster of gacha mobile titles unable to survive long-term.

During its final months, DanChro will introduce a Second Anniversary event on July 30th, featuring an original story written by series creator Fujino Omori. This will be the last major content addition. Starting the same day post-maintenance, the sale of paid Selas will cease, and full service—including customer support—will conclude across all platforms by the end of September.

As heavyweights such as Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail, and Blue Archive continue to dominate user attention and spending, smaller titles like DanChro face increasing challenges in retaining an audience. Without creative innovation or unique positioning, more mid-sized gacha RPGs could meet a similar end.
