The South Korean Game Rating and Administration Committee (GRAC) has classified Death Stranding 2: On the Beach with an age rating of "19+". This rating is due to the game's inclusion of "excessive violence," "excessive profanity, profanity and swearing," and scenes depicting the use of various illegal substances.

Hideo Kojima recently expressed his gratitude to actress Shiori Kutsuna for her dedication and hard work on Death Stranding 2. Despite the challenges of the ongoing global health situation, Kutsuna completed her role which involved motion capture in Los Angeles, 3D scanning, and voice recording in both Japanese and English across various locations. Her involvement with the project began in the fall of 2022.

At the Tokyo Game Show 2024, Hideo Kojima unveiled new material for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. The presentation featured several two-minute cutscenes that introduced the protagonist's allies. Notable characters include Tarman, played by George Miller, who is the captain of the mobile base Magellan that navigates through tar lakes. Another character, Dollman, portrayed by Fatih Akin, is a living doll and former medium who has lost his human form. Additionally, Léa Seydoux reprises her role as Fragile.

Elle Fanning joins the cast as Tomorrow, a mysterious character discovered in a location resembling the realm of the dead. This ties intriguingly into the original game's tagline, "Tomorrow is in your hands."

In one of the cutscenes, characters sing the iconic song "Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head" by Burt Bacharach and Hal David, while engaging in conversation with a pregnant woman named Rainy, portrayed by Shiori Kutsuna.
