"Defeating and Capturing Uth Duna: Monster Hunter Wilds Guide"
In the vast and treacherous Forbidden Lands of *Monster Hunter Wilds*, you'll encounter a variety of formidable beasts, each with its own unique challenges and rewards. One such monster you'll face early on is Uth Duna, a leviathan-type creature that you'll meet in the Scarlet Forest during Chapter 1's mission questline. To help you conquer and capture this beast, here's a comprehensive guide to Uth Duna.
How to Unlock Uth Duna in Monster Hunter Wilds

Your journey to encounter Uth Duna begins in the Scarlet Forest. After you've successfully dealt with other significant threats like Lala Barina and Congalala, you'll need to rendezvous with Olivia and Erik, who are investigating a nearby dam. However, as the weather shifts dramatically, Uth Duna will make its grand entrance during Mission 1-5: Beyond the Deluge, amidst a raging monsoon. Your mission then becomes clear: defeat this beast before it wreaks further havoc.
How to Beat and Capture Uth Duna in Monster Hunter Wilds

Uth Duna, known as 'A Feast in the Deep,' emerges when the waters of the Scarlet Forest rise dangerously. As the apex predator of the region, facing this monster will test your skills more than any previous encounter in the game. To prepare for this battle, consider arming yourself with a thunder-element weapon, which you can first acquire from Rey Dau in Mission 2-2. If thunder weapons are out of reach, equip gear or a Talisman like Water Charm I to boost your water resistance.
Before heading out, don't forget to enjoy a hearty meal to keep your Health and Stamina at peak levels. Also, pack Nulberries to counteract the Waterblight status ailment that Uth Duna can inflict.
Uth Duna Attacks and Weaknesses

A key feature of Uth Duna is its iridescent fins, which serve as a 'Veil' that temporarily increases its defense but slows its movement. By dealing enough damage to these fins, you can force them to retract, exposing Uth Duna's weak points—its Head, Mouth, Tail, and both Forelegs, all of which are breakable. However, once the fins are gone, Uth Duna becomes more aggressive and its attacks more frequent, requiring you to stay agile, especially in the water.
Uth Duna's arsenal includes several physical attacks that leverage its massive size:
- Belly Slam: Uth Duna rises on its hind legs and slams down, creating a shockwave.
- Roar: Like many monsters, Uth Duna's roar can temporarily stun you.
- Body Coil: It coils up and then unleashes a sweeping tail attack.
- Aerial Twirl: Mimicking a whale, Uth Duna leaps and twirls in the air before crashing down, affecting a wide area.
- Leg Swipe: Close combat can provoke Uth Duna to swipe at you with its clawed feet.
Remember, after defeating Uth Duna at least once, you can consult its weaknesses in your Field Guide.
Should You Capture or Kill Uth Duna?

As with other *Monster Hunter* games, you have the choice to either capture or kill Uth Duna at the battle's end. To capture it, weaken the monster until it's nearly exhausted, then deploy a Shock Trap or Pitfall Trap. Once trapped, use a Tranq Bomb to knock it out and complete the capture.
Both options yield different rewards, though the exact differences are still being explored. Here are the potential drops from Uth Duna:
