Should You Fight Lu Bu in Dynasty Warriors: Origins?

Fighting Lu Bu in *Dynasty Warriors: Origins* is a daunting challenge. In my playthrough, it took me over an hour to defeat this formidable warrior. However, there are compelling reasons to take him on. Firstly, defeating Lu Bu earns you significant bragging rights; it's a badge of honor among players. Secondly, depending on your choices, you might have no option but to face him. If you align with Shu or Wei, you'll encounter him in Chapter 4 during the Battle of Xiapi. Additionally, defeating Lu Bu at the Battle of Hulao Gate not only grants you the "The Strongest" trophy but also unlocks the game's ultimate weapon, the halberd, if you beat him in the post-game.

Lu Bu’s First Phase

Preparation is key before battling Lu Bu. Equip a weapon like a sword that can deliver multiple hits and stagger him. Also, choose Battle Arts that are quick to activate, require minimal Bravery, and have a wide range. During my fight, I used Falcon Flurry, Mad Blade Rush, Absconding Slash, and Flying Dragon Slash. Accessories that boost your health and defense, such as Divine Bird’s Wing and Divine Turtle’s Shell, are essential as Lu Bu's attacks are devastating. Opt for a weapon with a skill that grants Bravery for each Perfect Evade, as this will be crucial for your strategy.

In most encounters, Lu Bu begins the fight mounted on Red Hare. This initial phase is relatively straightforward; Lu Bu charges around on his horse. He's swift, but he pauses occasionally to rest. Use these moments to strike with your Battle Arts and then retreat. His attacks are manageable to dodge, except for when Red Hare leaps and crashes down. Once Lu Bu's health drops to 80%, he dismounts, and the real challenge begins.

Lu Bu’s Second Phase

On foot, Lu Bu is a formidable opponent. His attacks are swift and he moves quickly across the battlefield. When he's enveloped in a red aura, he's unstoppable and cannot be staggered. Be prepared for his charges, which come in sets of three. If he charges without his spear, he's attempting to grab you, which can severely deplete your health, but this can be evaded like his other charges.

His most lethal move is when he glows orange, signaling an imminent attack where he launches three massive arrows at you repeatedly. This can juggle and decimate your health. Equip a Battle Art like Absconding Slash to cancel this from a distance; close-quarters Battle Arts like Palm Strike will result in your demise. Keep your Musou gauge charged for emergencies, as it provides a brief period of invincibility.

During this phase, Lu Bu can be juggled easily, allowing you to quickly charge your Battle Arts and break his Fortitude meter. Stay close to react to his attacks swiftly, and remember: evasion is key.

Lu Bu’s Final Phase

When Lu Bu's health is sufficiently depleted, he enters Musou Rage, marking the final phase. Now unstaggered, he unleashes a relentless barrage of attacks. Your objective is to deplete his Fortitude before he executes his Musou attack. Use all your remaining resources—activate your Musou attacks, deploy Battle Arts, and strike rapidly. If he completes his Musou Attack, he'll immediately start another, forcing you to restart the phase. Breaking his Fortitude here is crucial to finally defeating him.

And that’s how to defeat Lu Bu in *Dynasty Warriors: Origins*! *Dynasty Warriors: Origins* is now available for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
