Despite being the first boss you'll encounter, Yetuga is no pushover. Mastering the game's combat mechanics is crucial for success. Yetuga is an aggressive adversary, relentlessly attacking when its territory is threatened. It's equipped with both long and short-range attacks, including a devastating leaping slam.
Your strategy will hinge on effective dodging and parrying, tailored to your preferred playstyle. Yetuga's arsenal includes:
- A two-hit combo beginning with a left-handed downward smash followed by a right-handed uppercut.
- A four-hit combo featuring horizontal swipes using either arm.
- A powerful downward smash using both arms.
- A leaping single-handed smash.
- A jumping grab.
- A charging attack.
As you learn Yetuga's attack patterns, you'll find opportunities to strike back between its assaults. Parrying, except for the jumping grab, will help you inflict more Stamina damage. Exploit Yetuga's aggression by dodging its charge and allowing it to crash into a wall, creating a brief window for free attacks. This is your chance to break the ice spikes on its back, thereby weakening its attack strength.

In the second phase, parrying becomes even more vital as it conserves your Stamina. Keep up the pressure to push Yetuga into its next stage. When it roars and powers up, maintain your distance. It will then wield a giant rock for smashing attacks, so timing your dodges or parries is key. Be wary of its frost breath, which generates ice spikes; either move out of the way or parry the attack as it approaches. Utilize Potent Attacks when possible, and when Yetuga is exhausted, unleash a Brutal Attack for significant damage. With persistence, Yetuga will soon succumb.
Upon defeating Yetuga, you'll earn 4,800 Lacrima, along with Frozen Mountain gear items and the Necklace of Resolve, rewarding your efforts handsomely.
