Digimon Con to Reveal New Project: Digital TCG Possible?

by Elijah Apr 17,2025

For fans of the long-running franchise Digimon, the upcoming Digimon Con 2025 is poised to be a landmark event. Attendees can anticipate a plethora of new announcements and updates about forthcoming projects within the franchise. However, it's one particular teaser that has captured the community's attention: a confused Renamon alongside a mobile phone.

The most immediate interpretation we might draw from this is the potential development of a digital version of the Digimon TCG. Given that Bandai Namco already offers a tutorial app for iOS and Android for many of their physical trading card games, the idea of a mobile-based TCG isn't far-fetched, especially in the wake of the successful launch of Pokémon TCG Pocket.

Yet, it's essential to temper our enthusiasm slightly. The teaser might not necessarily indicate that the mobile device is the platform for the new project; it could simply be a method for viewers to watch the upcoming livestream later this week.

ytGoing DigitalIt's safe to acknowledge that while Digimon enjoys a dedicated fanbase, it often finds itself overshadowed by the colossal presence of Pokémon. During the late '90s and 2000s, there was a notable rivalry between the two, but while Digimon remains a cherished choice for nostalgic anime fans, Pokémon has undeniably claimed the global pop culture throne.

Launching a digital TCG for Digimon wouldn't guarantee immediate success as it might for Pokémon. Nonetheless, it wouldn't be a risky move either, considering the existing popularity of the Digimon TCG. Making it more accessible to a broader audience could be a significant achievement. We'll have to tune into the upcoming Digimon Con livestream later this month to learn more.
