Dragon Age: The Veilguard Director Leaves BioWare

by Aurora May 03,2025

Corinne Busche, the director of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, is reportedly set to leave EA-owned BioWare in the coming weeks. Busche, who took on the role of game director in February 2022, guided the game to its launch in October of the previous year. Eurogamer broke the news of her departure, and IGN has reached out to EA for further comment.

Since its release, Dragon Age: The Veilguard has been under scrutiny regarding its commercial success. However, Eurogamer notes that Busche's exit is not related to the game's performance. EA has not yet disclosed whether the game's sales and revenue met expectations, with the company set to announce its Q3 2025 financial results on February 4.

Busche joined BioWare in 2019, following her time at Maxis where she contributed to The Sims projects. Her leadership was pivotal in the final stages of Dragon Age: The Veilguard's development, which saw the game transform from a multiplayer concept into a full-fledged single-player RPG after a major reset.

Meanwhile, BioWare has shifted its focus away from Dragon Age: The Veilguard, confirming no plans for DLC and instead concentrating on the development of Mass Effect 5. This shift comes after a period of significant changes for the studio, including layoffs in August 2023 that affected around 50 employees, including veteran narrative designer Mary Kirby.

These layoffs were part of a broader restructuring at EA, which split its operations into sports and other divisions. There were also rumors of BioWare's potential acquisition, and the decision to let Star Wars: The Old Republic go third-party to allow BioWare to focus on its flagship franchises.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard's reveal in 2024 was met with mixed reactions, particularly to the name change from Dreadwolf to The Veilguard. Despite an initial negative response to the reveal trailer, subsequent gameplay teases were generally well-received by fans.

As BioWare navigates these changes, fans are left questioning whether the studio will have the opportunity to continue the Dragon Age series with another sequel following The Veilguard.
