Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii: A Blend of Manly Drama and Comedic Chaos

RGG Studio promises a unique blend of serious drama and over-the-top comedy in their upcoming title, Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii. This latest installment in the popular series pushes boundaries while delivering a compelling storyline.

Featuring a "Serious" Majima

While the Like a Dragon series is renowned for its humor, director Masayoshi Yokoyama reveals a different side to the iconic Goro Majima. This iteration will initially present a more serious, focused Majima, prioritizing his goals and the bonds he forms throughout his epic journey.

Producer Ryosuke Horii elaborates, emphasizing the "manly drama" at the heart of the game. "The goofing off isn’t the main point – there’s a manly drama at the center of things. Of course, there are some crazy parts to take detours to, but overall, I think it’s a straightforward tale about a passionate man." Horii highlights Majima's unique qualities, distinct from series protagonist Kazuma Kiryu, making him the ideal lead for this wild adventure. He explains the need to "blur the lines of reality a little more than we would with Kiryu," aiming for varied and exciting action. The goal was to balance the pirate theme, Majima's personality, and the core Like a Dragon essence, a challenging yet rewarding pursuit.

The developers aimed for a balance between realism and extravagance, avoiding a predictable narrative. Their motivation was to create a "wilder" experience while maintaining a serious and impactful storyline.

Majima's Maji Festival in Japan

To celebrate the game's release, RGG Studio is hosting Majima's Maji Festival, a special event touring six Japanese cities. Starting in Sapporo on December 1st, 2024, the tour concludes in Nagoya (January 18th) and Tokyo (January 25th).

Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii features Goro Majima as the lead, promising an action-packed adventure with exhilarating naval combat, a vibrant cast, and a compelling story. It launches on February 21st for PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One.
