"Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza" Demo Out Now in Hawaii

by Joseph Mar 11,2026

Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio has released a free demo for *Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii* today on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.

The studio announced the demo on X/Twitter, confirming it will be available for download starting at 7 AM PT / 10 AM ET / 3 PM GMT. While the full game launches on February 21 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as well, those platforms will not receive the free demo.

RGG Studio has not explicitly confirmed if progress from the demo will transfer to the full game. However, based on its design, this seems unlikely. The demo allows players to jump directly into specific free-roam zones and combat scenarios, rather than following the main story's natural progression.

Within the demo, players can "freely explore portions of the Honolulu and Madlantis areas," both of which are not accessible at the start of the full game.

Players will also be able to switch between the Mad Dog and Sea Dog fighting styles, take on challenging bounty enemies, compete in four naval and deck battles within the Pirates' Coliseum, experiment with new customization options, and "enjoy side activities like karaoke, featuring a choice of three songs."

*Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii* is a spin-off sequel to *Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth*, the eighth core title in the series (or ninth, counting *Yakuza 0*). The game follows protagonist Goro Majima, who awakens with amnesia and embarks on a new life as a pirate, exploring locations such as Hawaii.

A trailer from the Xbox Partner Showcase in October offered a deeper look at its ship combat, reminiscent of *Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag*, and revealed the return of the fan-favorite character Taiga Saejima—hinting at stronger connections to the main series than initially expected.

The game will also be notably longer than the previous spin-off, *Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name*, with its main story estimated to take 15 to 18 hours to complete. Fans can unlock an outfit that lets Majima dress as the legendary series hero Kiryu Kazuma, provided they sign up for email updates or the SEGA rewards program.
