Dragon Quest 12: Creator Teases 'Gradual' Info Reveal

Dragon Quest XII remains under development, with creator Yuji Horii assuring fans that information will be revealed gradually. During a recent livestream with his radio show group, KosoKoso Hōsō Kyoku, Horii confirmed the Square Enix team is diligently working on the project.

This update follows a May 2024 announcement acknowledging the passing of key figures Akira Toriyama and Koichi Sugiyama. The departure of lead producer Yu Miyake to head Square Enix's mobile game division had also preceded this.

Recent restructuring within Square Enix and a period of silence regarding Dragon Quest XII fueled fan concerns about potential cancellation. However, Horii's statement effectively confirms the game's continued development.

Dragon Quest XII was initially announced as part of the franchise's 35th-anniversary festivities. It will be the first main series installment since 2017's Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age. Square Enix has since reported that the Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake surpassed sales projections, achieving 2 million units sold.
