Dragon Quest 3 Remake: How to Get the Yellow Orb

This guide explains how to obtain the elusive Yellow Orb in the Dragon Quest 3 Remake. While the process is relatively simple, finding the starting point can be tricky.

The Yellow Orb is located in Merchantburg, a town initially represented as "???" on the map. Its name is determined by the merchant you hire and leave there. You must establish and develop this village to acquire the orb.

Locating Merchantburg (???)

After obtaining the ship from the King of Portoga (following the Black Pepper quest), Merchantburg is accessible. Its quest marker appears in the northeast corner of the world map. You can sail west from the coast to reach the easternmost point of the eastern continent.

Optimal Timing for Visiting Merchantburg

While orb collection order is flexible, establishing Merchantburg early is recommended. The town requires significant growth time before yielding the Yellow Orb. Establishing it early allows you to collect other orbs concurrently.

Acquiring the Yellow Orb

Establishing Merchantburg:

1. Hire a merchant from PALS in Aliahan. Minimize combat en route.
2. In Merchantburg, enter the single building. An old man will request a merchant to found the town. Offer your newly hired merchant. The town will then be named.

Returning to Merchantburg and its Growth:

Merchantburg develops through five stages. You'll receive notifications to revisit after each growth phase. The final stage involves a large cabaret. After leaving the cabaret, be wary of a security guard attempting to overcharge you. During the fourth visit, you'll notice growing discontent towards the merchant.

Obtaining the Yellow Orb (Final Visit):

Visit Merchantburg at night during the fifth visit. The merchant will be absent, having been overthrown by the townsfolk and imprisoned in the house south of his former residence. Speak to the imprisoned merchant to learn the Yellow Orb's location. Return to the merchant's house; the orb will be marked behind the sofa.

The Yellow Orb is typically the penultimate orb acquired. Other orb locations include: Red Orb (Pirates' Den), Green Orb (Theddon), and Silver Orb (Maw of the Necrogond/Necrogond Shrine).
