Dune: Awakening Beta Delayed for Three-Week Update

by Connor May 26,2026

Dune: Awakening, the upcoming open-world survival MMO inspired by Frank Herbert’s iconic sci-fi novels and Denis Villeneuve's films, has been rescheduled for release on June 10, 2025.

Funcom announced the delay while also confirming that players who purchase the Deluxe or Ultimate Edition can get a head start and begin playing on June 5.

Explaining the reason for the shift, Funcom stated that feedback from its ongoing Persistent Closed Beta prompted the decision, giving the development team "a bit more time to cook." The extra time will allow them to implement changes identified and requested during the beta.

Additionally, the delay will enable Funcom to host a "large-scale beta weekend next month, providing even more players the chance to play and share their feedback."

While the news may disappoint those eager to dive in, Funcom is hosting a combat-focused livestream later today at 12pm ET/9am PT to showcase more about PvP and PvE mechanics, archetypes, and skills.

We at IGN remain excited about Dune: Awakening. As noted in our hands-on preview, "It's easy to be skeptical about an MMO survival game set in the Dune universe, but after experiencing dehydration and sunstroke firsthand, my day on Arrakis convinced me Dune: Awakening is one to watch."

For more information, explore details on the MMO's business model and post-launch plans, as well as the in-depth gameplay trailer revealed at Gamescom ONL last year.
