Dynasty Warriors: Origins - How To Switch Characters

In Dynasty Warriors: Origins, you primarily play as the Wanderer, striving for peace. The main storyline offers multiple choices, often with companions joining you in battle. While companions fight alongside you, you can temporarily control them. They are significantly more powerful than the Wanderer, making switching a strategic advantage.

Switching Characters in Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Character switching is only possible during battles where you have a companion. Before a battle, the companion selection is the last option in the war council menu. You can choose to fight alone, but you cannot select a companion beforehand. Once the battle starts, your companion's health bar appears below yours in the bottom right corner.

Below the health bar is a blue gauge, similar to your Musou gauge. This fills as you:

  • Parry attacks
  • Perfectly dodge
  • Assault officers
  • Utilize Weapon Arts

Most combat actions contribute to filling this gauge, albeit at varying speeds.

A "Change Character" button appears beside the companion's gauge once it's full. Hold this button (View on Xbox, C on PC, or Touchpad on PlayStation) for about a second to switch.

Playing as Companions in Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Switching characters mid-battle is recommended, as companions are exceptionally strong. Control lasts roughly a minute; the blue gauge slowly depletes, showing remaining time. Your new character starts with full Bravery and a range of powerful combat arts.

Switching initiates a powerful attack, so aim carefully. The companion also has a full Musou gauge and health bar, allowing immediate use of their special attack.
