EA's Skate Game: Microtransactions Arrive Early

EA's highly anticipated Skate revival is incorporating microtransactions into its latest alpha test, as reported by Insider Gaming. Developer Full Circle has introduced a virtual currency, San Van Bucks, used to purchase cosmetic items. This move appears to be a test of the in-game purchase system, with Full Circle aiming for a positive player experience during purchases. The developer assures players that feedback on this system is highly valued.

Importantly, Full Circle has confirmed that all player progress will be reset before the early access launch. Any purchases made during the alpha test will be refunded as San Van Bucks, redeemable upon the early access release.

Skate's early access launch is slated for 2025. Initially announced at EA Play in 2020, the game was then described as being in very early development. Since then, Full Circle has maintained consistent communication with the community through closed playtests and updates via their "The Board Room" video series. The official title, skate, was revealed in 2022, along with confirmation of its free-to-play release on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC.
