Edgar Wright's The Running Man trailer unveiled, starring Glen Powell

by Isabella Jan 10,2026

The Running Man's first trailer has arrived, showcasing Glen Powell starring in a version closer to Stephen King's original novel than Arnold Schwarzenegger's 1987 sci-fi adaptation.

In the trailer below, Glen Powell portrays Ben Richards - a desperate man entering the dystopian reality show "The Running Man" to secure medical funds for his critically ill daughter. Unlike Schwarzenegger's framed cop character, Powell's Richards faces participation after being blacklisted from employment.

The show's premise differs significantly too. Powell's version sees him hunted nationwide while cameras document his every move for entertainment. His goal? Simply survive 30 days to claim the massive cash prize, though obvious complications arise.

Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Baby Driver) directs this new adaptation, bringing his signature kinetic style. True to King's novel, Josh Brolin plays showrunner Killian while Colman Domingo portrays host Bobby Thompson. Richards delivers fiery words to Killian before beginning his deadly gauntlet.

The scope expands far beyond the original film's confined battleground. Powell's Richards flees across America, showcased in thrilling sequences like dodging gunfire through apartment hallways and elevator escapes.

A mysterious masked hunter (played by Foundation's Lee Pace) pursues Richards throughout. The trailer also reveals Michael Cera's surprise appearance, reprising his Scott Pilgrim collaboration with Wright in an action-packed supporting role.

"What Michael does here might surprise fans," Wright teased about Cera's character Elton Parrakis. "Watching him and Powell's unlikely partnership develop was genuinely delightful."

The Running Man begins its deadly game November 7, 2025.
