How to Two-Hand Weapons in Elden Ring

To execute a two-handed weapon attack, press and hold E (PC), Triangle (PlayStation), or Y (Xbox), then strike with your chosen weapon (left or right hand). Note that altered control schemes may require adjustments. This technique also works while mounted, but remember that weapons requiring two-handed use due to Strength requirements must be wielded this way before mounting your steed.

Why You Should Two-Hand in Elden Ring

Two-handing offers significant advantages. Primarily, it boosts your Strength stat by 50%, significantly increasing damage output, especially with Strength-scaling weapons. Moreover, it often alters attack animations and damage types. This allows access to weapons normally beyond your Strength capabilities, maintaining build flexibility. Finally, it grants direct access to your weapon's Ash of War, bypassing shield-based skill defaults.

The Downsides of Using a Weapon in Two-Hands

While beneficial for Strength builds, two-handing has drawbacks. Attack patterns change, requiring adaptation and strategic planning. The loss of a shield reduces defense, demanding careful positioning and timing. Players focusing on Dexterity or other stats may find less benefit.

Best Weapons to Two-Hand in Elden Ring

Generally, large, Strength-scaling weapons excel in two-handed combat. Greatswords, Colossal Swords, Great Hammers, and Colossal Weapons are prime candidates. Since the Shadow of the Erdtree update, the Two-Handed Sword Talisman provides a damage boost for two-handed sword users. Consider weapons like the Greatsword, Zweihander, Fire Knight's Greatsword, and Giant-Crusher.
