Emio and Gundam Headline Latest App Store Additions

by Thomas Feb 13,2025

Hello gaming enthusiasts, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for August 29th, 2024. Today's roundup features a substantial lineup of new game releases, forming the core of this Thursday's column. We'll also explore a noteworthy selection of new sales. Unfortunately, we can't have daily Nintendo Directs, but let's dive into the games!

Featured New Releases

Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club ($49.99)

The Famicom Detective Club returns after a long hiatus with a new installment. This latest case stays true to the originals, both in its strengths and weaknesses. Expect a fresh mystery and a presentation reminiscent of the recent Switch remakes. Can you crack the case of the latest serial murders? My review is forthcoming.

Gundam Breaker 4 ($59.99)

Mikhail's comprehensive review provides an in-depth look at Gundam Breaker 4's gameplay and Switch performance. In short: build and battle Gunplas. While the Switch version naturally lags behind others in performance, it's still a worthwhile experience. Check out Mikhail's insightful review for a complete picture.

Shadow of the Ninja – Reborn ($19.99)

Tengo Project continues its impressive streak of remakes. Following successful revivals of 16-bit classics, they now tackle an 8-bit title. Expect a departure from the original, but a solid action-platformer nonetheless. My review will be available early next week.

Valfaris: Mecha Therion ($19.99)

A Valfaris sequel with a significant gameplay twist. This 2.5D side-scrolling shooter offers a different experience than its predecessor. While the genre shift might surprise some, it's a solid entry in its own right. My review is on its way.

Nour: Play With Your Food ($9.99)

I'll admit, I'm a bit puzzled by this one. The visuals are stunning, but the gameplay remains a mystery. Is it about food photography? Hidden secrets? Perhaps Mikhail will shed some light on this intriguing title.

Monster Jam Showdown ($49.99)

For monster truck enthusiasts, Monster Jam Showdown offers local and online multiplayer, multiple game modes, and plenty of action. Reception on other platforms has been mixed, but it might be a welcome addition for fans of the genre.

WitchSpring R ($39.99)

A possible remake of the original WitchSpring, offering a polished experience. While its price point approaches that of full-fledged Atelier games, fans of the series might find it worthwhile.

Depths of Sanity ($19.99)

An underwater exploration game with a fantastical horror twist. Investigate the disappearance of your crew in a dangerous, interconnected underwater world. Combat is involved. It's well-regarded on other platforms and likely to appeal to Switch players as well.

Voltaire: The Vegan Vampire ($19.99)

A farming and action game with a unique premise. Voltaire, a vegan vampire, must defend his lifestyle against his bloodthirsty father. While I'm personally a bit fatigued by the genre, it might appeal to those seeking a different kind of farming simulator.

Marble Abduction! Patti Hattu ($11.79)

A classic marble roller game with 70 stages and 80 marbles to collect. Test your skills and speed as you navigate challenging tracks.

Leo: The Firefighter Cat ($24.99)

A kid-friendly firefighting game with 20 missions. A different take on the firefighting genre, potentially appealing to younger players.

Gori: Cuddly Carnage ($21.99)

A grotesque action game featuring a hoverboarding cat. While the core gameplay is reportedly decent, the Switch version suffers from technical issues impacting the overall experience.

Arcade Archives Finalizer Super Transformation ($7.99)

A relatively obscure vertical shooter from 1985. Pilot a transforming robot and collect power-ups. A charming retro shooter for fans of the genre.

EGGCONSOLE Xanadu Scenario II PC-8801mkIISR ($6.49)

An early expansion pack featuring the debut work of legendary composer Yuzo Koshiro. A piece of gaming history for collectors and fans of retro games.

The Backrooms: Survival ($10.99)

A horror/survival/roguelite game best experienced with online multiplayer (up to 10 players). The solo experience might be more niche due to its repetitive nature.

Can of Wormholes ($19.99)

A clever puzzle game where you play as a sentient tin can. Solve 100 hand-crafted puzzles with consistently fresh ideas.

Ninja I & II ($9.99)

Two NES-style microgames featuring ninja action. Local multiplayer or CPU competition.

Dice Make 10! ($3.99)

A surprisingly fun puzzle game with two modes: falling blocks and placement puzzles. The goal is to create rows or columns where dice faces add up to multiples of ten.

Sales

(North American eShop, US Prices)

Celebrate the 30th anniversary of The King of Fighters with a sale on the entire Arcade Archives series. The Pixel Game Maker Series is also heavily discounted. Many other indie titles are on sale as well.
