Epic Games Store to come preinstalled on Android Telefónica devices
Epic Games and Telefónica have forged a significant partnership, resulting in the pre-installation of the Epic Games Store (EGS) on Android devices sold by Telefónica. This impacts millions of users across numerous countries.
This means that O2 (UK), Movistar, and Vivo customers will find the EGS pre-installed, alongside Google Play, offering a readily available alternative app store.
This move is strategically important for Epic Games. The convenience factor is a significant hurdle for third-party app stores; many users simply stick with pre-installed options. By securing a deal with Telefónica, a major telecommunications operator with a global reach (Spain, UK, Germany, Latin America, and beyond), Epic gains a considerable advantage.
This collaboration marks a pivotal step for Epic, particularly given their ongoing legal disputes with Apple and Google. The partnership builds upon their previous collaboration in 2021, which brought the O2 Arena into Fortnite. This latest agreement represents a substantial shift in Epic's mobile strategy and could yield significant future benefits for both Epic and consumers.
