Evans Denies Future MCU Avengers Role

Chris Evans has definitively stated that he will not be returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in Avengers: Doomsday or any other future films, despite recent reports suggesting otherwise. Evans directly refuted a Deadline article claiming his return alongside Robert Downey Jr., calling the report "not true."

This contradicts a statement made by Anthony Mackie, the current Captain America, who initially believed Evans would reprise his role based on information from his manager. However, Mackie subsequently spoke with Evans, who confirmed his retirement from the MCU. Evans reiterated his retirement to Esquire, stating he’s "happily retired" and that such rumors resurface periodically since Avengers: Endgame.

While Evans did appear as Johnny Storm in Deadpool & Wolverine, this was a smaller, comedic role distinct from his central Captain America character arc.

The MCU's future remains somewhat uncertain following the removal of Jonathan Majors, who played Kang, due to assault and harassment charges. Majors' planned role as the MCU's next Thanos-level antagonist has been scrapped, leading to Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr., being announced as the new main villain. This announcement fueled speculation about other original Avengers returning, though no official confirmations have been made beyond Downey Jr.

Benedict Cumberbatch confirmed Doctor Strange's absence from Avengers: Doomsday, but will feature centrally in its sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars. The Russo Brothers are directing Avengers: Doomsday, which will reportedly continue the multiverse storyline, with Hayley Atwell's Agent Carter also rumored to appear.
