Final Fantasy 14's Yoshi-P Says There May Be 'Good News' in the Future About FF14 on Nintendo Switch 2

by Christopher Apr 07,2026

Have you tried the critically acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy 14? There’s now an expanded free trial that lets you play through the full A Realm Reborn story, plus the award-winning Heavensward and Stormblood expansions—all the way up to level 70, with no time limits or restrictions. What, you haven’t? You only own Nintendo systems and nothing else?

Don’t worry—Final Fantasy 14 producer Naoki “Yoshi-P” Yoshida has you in mind. In a recent interview with VGC at Gamescom, Yoshi-P addressed questions about bringing FF14 to the Nintendo Switch 2, and the outlook looks encouraging. “For me, my goal is to make Final Fantasy 14 and 16 accessible to as many players as possible, and I truly hope everyone can enjoy these two games,” he said. “We’re putting our full effort into making this happen, so feel free to tell your audience that I see strong potential here and we’re working hard to make it a reality.”

Yoshi-P added that this would also benefit current players—some might prefer raiding or following the main story on PC, but could unwind on the couch with a Switch 2, making gathering and crafting more relaxed.

“For players new to Final Fantasy 14, especially younger audiences, starting on Switch 2 could introduce them to an entirely new genre. I’d be thrilled to welcome them into this world and help them fall in love with the game.”

“So we’ve been talking with Nintendo, and the conversations have been positive. I genuinely hope players will look forward to some exciting news in the near future.”

Final Fantasy 14 has long been available on PlayStation and PC, but it’s now also on Xbox and mobile—making it one of the few MMORPGs playable across nearly all major platforms. Nintendo has been the exception, likely because earlier systems couldn’t handle the technical demands of such a large-scale online world. Could the Nintendo Switch 2 finally run Eorzea and all its inhabitants? We certainly hope so—and soon.

Yesterday, during Gamescom Opening Night Live, we got some new Final Fantasy 14 news: a crossover with Monster Hunter is coming this fall, adding FF14 content to Monster Hunter Wilds and vice versa. Unfortunately, if you’re not already deep into FF14, you won’t be able to jump straight into the Monster Hunter content—you’ll need to complete the latest expansion, Dawntrail, which is a hundreds-of-hours journey unless you pay to skip most of the story.
