Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 Prioritizes PS5 Release
Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3: PS5 Launch Confirmed, Multi-Platform Release Planned
The highly anticipated final installment of the FF7 Remake trilogy will debut on the PlayStation 5, according to producers Yoshinori Kitase and director Naoki Hamaguchi. This confirmation, revealed during a January 23, 2025 interview with 4Gamer, alleviates concerns among PlayStation fans following the staggered releases of previous installments.
PS5 Launch Assured
Kitase directly addressed concerns about the release pattern of FF7 Remake and FF7 Rebirth, stating unequivocally, "No, you can rest assured about the next one (FF7 Remake Part 3)." While the PS5 is nearing the midpoint of its lifecycle, the potential arrival of a PS6 doesn't seem to affect the current plans.
Release Date Remains Under Wraps
Square Enix remains tight-lipped about the official release date. However, Hamaguchi offered a positive development update during a January 23, 2025 interview with Famitsu. He reported that development is progressing smoothly, on schedule, and that a key milestone was reached by the end of 2024, confirming the game's direction. Kitase also expressed satisfaction with the completed storyline, hinting at a satisfying conclusion for fans.
Timed Exclusivity Expected
A March 6, 2024 Washington Post report suggested PlayStation secured timed exclusivity for the entire FF7 Remake trilogy. Given the release patterns of previous games (one-year exclusivity for FF7 Remake on PS4, six-month exclusivity for FF7 Remake Intergrade on PS5, and a similar period for FF7 Rebirth), a timed PS5 exclusive launch for Part 3 is highly probable before its release on other platforms.
Square Enix's Multi-Platform Shift
Despite the positive reception of the FF7 Remake series, Square Enix's financial report from March 31, 2024, revealed declining sales in its HD titles. This prompted the company to announce a more aggressive multi-platform strategy, encompassing Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms. This shift could mean future Square Enix titles, including potential future FF7 installments, will be less reliant on PlayStation exclusivity.
