Final Fantasy VII Remake Trilogy Confirmed for Nintendo Switch 2 Release

by Leo Aug 08,2025

In Nintendo’s latest Creator’s Voice video, Final Fantasy Remake series director Naoki Hamaguchi announced that Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade will launch on the Nintendo Switch 2.

Intergrade, an enhanced PS5 version of the 2020 PS4 title Final Fantasy VII Remake, serves as the first chapter in the trilogy reimagining the iconic 1997 PS1 RPG Final Fantasy VII. This version upgrades the original’s visuals and lighting while including the Intermission DLC, which follows ninja Yuffie’s journey in Midgar.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is currently available on PS5 and PC. Hamaguchi noted that the Switch 2’s advanced capabilities make it possible to bring the game to Nintendo’s portable platform. “The Switch 2’s power allows us to fully realize Midgar’s world,” he said.

“Playing this title in handheld mode on the Switch 2 lets you enjoy it during your commute,” Hamaguchi remarked, highlighting how portability will enable players to share their experiences and progress with others more easily.

The Switch 2 edition will feature GameChat, allowing players to connect with friends and share screens in real time. “I’m thrilled to see this game on a portable device,” Hamaguchi said, expressing optimism about a growing partnership between Nintendo and the Final Fantasy franchise.

While only Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is confirmed for the Switch 2, Hamaguchi hinted at future releases, stating, “I hope fans are excited for the Final Fantasy VII Remake series on Switch 2,” suggesting that Rebirth and the trilogy’s final chapter may also arrive on the platform.

The Final Fantasy series began on Nintendo consoles before transitioning to PlayStation with the 3D Final Fantasy VII in 1997. With this remake, the iconic title returns to Nintendo hardware.
