Should You Free Ilora in Avowed?

by Caleb Mar 17,2025

Early in *Avowed*, you face a crucial decision: free the suspicious prisoner Ilora from her cell in Fort Northreach, or leave her fate sealed. Your ultimate goal involves using her boat to reach Paradis, but the choice of freeing or abandoning Ilora significantly impacts your journey.

Should You Free or Leave Ilora?

While Avowed encourages roleplaying your character as you see fit, freeing Ilora is strongly recommended. This path simplifies Fort Northreach and unlocks a later side quest.

What Happens If You Free Ilora in *Avowed*?

Freeing Ilora provides invaluable assistance in overcoming the island's challenges, including defeating Steadman Ralke, the area boss. Early in Avowed, your resources are limited. Ilora's aid significantly eases this initial difficulty. Furthermore, saving Ilora makes the later "Escape Plan" side quest considerably easier (without revealing spoilers).

How to Free Ilora

Ilora reveals the key to her cell is located in the Warden's Room. Reach the hallway's end, climb the crates, jump to the adjacent platform, and enter the passage above. Break through the boards on your right to access the Warden's Room. The key is near the door. Regardless of your decision about Ilora, use the key to unlock the cell beside hers and obtain the Deerskin Gloves within.

What Happens If You Don't Free Ilora in *Avowed*?

Choosing not to free Ilora makes Fort Northreach considerably harder, significantly impacting the "Escape Plan" side quest. Contrary to expectations, she won't remain imprisoned; you'll instead face her in combat, further complicating your escape from Fort Northreach. However, this path allows you to loot her body afterward, acquiring ill-gotten gains at the cost of a morally questionable choice.

In conclusion, freeing Ilora in Avowed offers significant advantages.
