"Back to the Future Screenwriter Confirms No Prequel, Spinoff, or Sequel Ever"
Rumors and speculation about a potential revival of the beloved "Back to the Future" franchise have been swirling, particularly after the success of "Cobra Kai," a TV series that followed up on the "Karate Kid" movies. However, Bob Gale, the screenwriter behind the iconic Robert Zemeckis-directed trilogy, has firmly shut down any hopes of a "Back to the Future" continuation.
In an interview with People, Gale expressed his frustration with persistent inquiries about expanding the franchise. "I don't know why they keep talking about that!" he exclaimed. "I mean, do they think that if they say it enough times, we're going to actually do it?"
Gale's stance is clear and unwavering: "When is there going to be a Back to the Future 4?' Never. 'When is there going to be a prequel?' Never. 'When is there going to be a spinoff?' Never. It's just fine the way it is. It's not perfect, but as Bob Zemeckis used to say, 'It's perfect enough.'"

While Gale's position is strong, the power of Hollywood could potentially override his wishes if it decided to push for a revival. However, any such move would need the approval of executive producer Steven Spielberg, who, according to Gale, is supportive of maintaining the trilogy as it is. Gale humorously noted, "If the juggernaut of corporate America or corporate international mishigas says, 'If you don't agree to this, we're going to kill your children,' alright, well, no, we don't want our children killed,' " but emphasized Spielberg's respect for the franchise's integrity.
"Steven Spielberg, of course, he's got to sign off on it too. And Steven, just like Steven won't allow another E.T., he totally respects the fact that we don't want any more Back to the Future. He gets it and always stood behind that. And thank you, Steven," Gale added.
Gale's sentiments align with his previous statements on the matter. In February, he had a blunt message for fans hoping for a "Back to the Future 4": "People always say, 'When are you going to do Back to the Future 4?' And we say, 'F**k you.'"
