GAMM: Italy's Largest Game Museum Shares Game History

Rome is now home to Italy's largest game museum, the Game Museum GAMM, which has opened its doors to the public. Situated in the vibrant Piazza della Repubblica, this museum is the innovative creation of Marco Accordi Rickards, a multifaceted individual who is a writer, journalist, professor, and the CEO of Vigamus. Marco's passion for video game culture shines through his vision for GAMM, which he describes as a journey intertwining history, technology, and gameplay exploration. The Game Museum GAMM builds upon the success of Vigamus, another gaming museum in Rome that has welcomed over two million visitors since its inception in 2012.

Here’s What You’ll See in GAMM, the Game Museum

First up is the GAMMDOME, an immersive digital playground. It features interactive stations alongside genuine artifacts from gaming history, such as consoles and donated items. This area operates on the 4 E Concept: Experience, Exhibition, Education, and Entertainment, offering a comprehensive dive into the world of gaming.

Next, the Path of Arcadia, or PARC, transports visitors back to the golden era of coin-operated games. This section celebrates the classics from the late 1970s through the 1980s, with a touch of early 1990s nostalgia, providing a nostalgic trip down memory lane.

Finally, the Historical Playground, or HIP, focuses on the anatomy of gameplay. Here, visitors can explore the structure of games, their interaction mechanics, and design rules, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the evolution of gaming.

The museum welcomes visitors from Monday to Thursday between 9:30 AM and 7:30 PM, and extends its hours on Fridays and Saturdays until 11:30 PM. Admission is priced at 15 euros, and further details can be found on the official website of GAMM, the Game Museum.
